Organizational Overview

The Oak Hill Boys Ranch is a residential treatment facility that has been operating since 1963 and has evolved into a highly comprehensive residential treatment program. The program offers a broad range of services based on a systematic model that therapeutically engages young people and their families and guides them towards successful futures.

The Oak Hill Boys Ranch is located on 160 acres of beautiful tree-lined property that is strategically located in a rural setting approximately 25 km North of Edmonton in the town of Bon Accord. The quiet country atmosphere provides a relaxing setting that enhances the therapeutic nature of the services provided.

The Ranch features outstanding living, educational and recreational facilities. young people reside in one of five residences: Kicking Horse Lodge, Athabasca House, Jasper House, Cavell Lodge and Whitehorse Lodge. Each residence has their own specialized milieu based on a continuum of services designed to meet the varying and changing developmental needs of young people. The living facilities include: a facility that emphasizes safety, two rustic cedar log homes, a facility that emphasizes safety with a home like atmosphere and a 3 bedroom house. The school facility offers five spacious classrooms, an industrial arts shop, a full size gymnasium, and a state of the art computer and technology centre. The recreation facilities include horse trails, an outdoor basket ball court, an ice rink, cross country ski trails, an outdoor volley ball court, an adventure-based high and low ropes course, sweat lodges, a tee pee(s), and two large sports fields for baseball, football and soccer.

These facilities provide the infrastructure for a comprehensive package of services that includes: Milieu therapy, educational programming, Aboriginal programming, recreation and fitness programming, Equine programming, farm programming, and outdoor adventures. Individual, family, and group therapy are also offered.
