Farm and Animal Programming

Horse & boys

The farm operation is a small operation that is specifically designed for the therapeutic purposes of the residents. The farm currently consists of approximately horses, steers, pigs, lamas, alpacas, Leo the donkey and Max the dog.

The residents acquire knowledge and skills in farming by taking care of the animals and contributing to the farm operation.

The horse and the Ranch dog have unique roles with the residents. The Ranch offers an Equestrian program that teaches residents about safety, grooming, caring for and riding horses. Horses have a unique capacity to develop relationships with people which has proven to be highly therapeutic for residents, particularly those who have struggled with issues of attachment. The ranch dog, Max, has also played a similar role with residents.
